Deep breathing sounds simple, right? And it is. But too many of us do not breathe deeply enough to fully benefit our body.
Research shows that if we constantly breathe shallow breaths, we run the risk of greatly hurting our mental and physical health.
When you breathe deeply you:
Take a moment and notice if you breathe deeply or not. If you don’t, then it’s important that you start doing so as soon as possible.
Even if you are naturally a deep breather, here is a way to crank up the power of your breathing…
Get as comfortable as you can either in your chair, on your bed, standing, in your car – or wherever you are where you can be undisturbed for a few minutes.
Close your eyes and focus on you.
Stage 1 – Basic
Breathe in from the bottom of your feet, drawing energy up through your torso and up through the top of your head. Exhale back down through your torso and out through your finger tips.
Repeat at least twice to get used to deep breathing. If breathing deep is new to you, it might take some practice. And that’s okay.
Note: Breathe slowly so you don’t develop a head rush due to so much extra oxygen being introduced into your body.
After a few focused deep breaths, add counting:
Breathe from the bottom of your feet, drawing energy up through your torso and up through the top of your head – while counting One, Two. Count one will take you half way up your body. Count two will take you to the top of your head. Exhale same way down and out through your finger tips.
Repeat as many times as you like.
Repeat breathing energy as stated above but now add to the count of four up your body. Then exhale the same way back to the bottom of your finger tips.
Stage 2 – Add Energy Vortex
Once you are comfortable with the above breathing energy exercise, you are ready to add the element of swirling energy.
Repeat the above breathing exercise while pretending to add a vortex of energy swirling around the outside of your body as you breathe from the bottom of your feet, up through your torso, to the top of your head.
Exhale while pretending swirling energy is flowing down, around your arms and finger tips.
Once you are comfortable with pretending to add swirling energy, you can add color to the energy.
Stage 3 – Add Color
Repeat the above breathing exercise while pretending to add color to your energy vortex. You can choose any color you prefer.
Here are some color ideas:
Yellow- strengthens your nerves, mind, life force and vitality. It’s great for clearing your mind.
Green – known for bringing peace and calm. Archangel Raphael is said to use emerald green to help with physical ailments.
Blue – can help with headaches; reduce stress, and calm strong negative emotions.
White – known as God’s light because it is pure and contains all colors of the spectrum. White light is also often referred to as healing light.
Taking a few minutes each day to focus on breathing energy into your body is such an easy way to relax and de-stress. Finding happiness is easier too when you have a steady flow of life giving oxygen.
Side note: If you find that you are a shallow breather, this may surprise you – you may have an emotional element involved that needs to be healed. It is said that shallow breathing represents suppression of life to its fullest.
